Mark Lisetto-Smith This chorus group had a concert in Stratford that was cancelled on the night of ice storm in December. Since they were all ready and had time, the group decided to record this EP in one of their houses. I like that while we were making merry with friends during the storm at our home on that same night, they were performing these lovely pieces in front of a crackling fire.

INTO THE DARK Sue Smith c. SOCAN 2013 Heavy footprints in the fallen snow Make a pathway I’m following Where, I do not know Down the hill, through the wood Over the river Into the dark Down the hill, through the wood Over the river Into the dark The wind is calling The snow has drifted All the footprints disappeared But still I follow The turning season Has called to me Come and walk through the darkness Toward the little light Down the hill, through the wood Over the river Into the dark Down the hill, through the wood Over the river Into the dark There in the distance A beckoning glow in a window pane Flicker of firelight The door flung wide Kind welcome for a stranger The turning season Has called to me Come and walk through the darkness Toward the little light Down the hill, through the wood Over the river Into the dark Down the hill, through the wood Over the river Into the dark

Hush, the Moon is Rising Shannon Kingsbury SOCAN We sway to the rhythm of the heartbeat of the earth With the trees blown by the wind with which we sing We dance in the patterns of the stars in the night And we shine like the moon full with light given from The sun sun sun In the dark of the night we feel the magic rise In the glow of silver cast down from the moon In shadows we will play and shadows we will be We will steal across the hills weaving webs of mystery through The night night night Hush, the moon is rising Hush, the moon is rising Hush, the moon is rising hush....

There is No Rose of Such Virtue c.14th Century English Marian Hymn. Arranged by Shannon Kingsbury Alleluia There is no rose of such virtue As is the rose that bare Jesu There is no rose of such virtue As is the rose that bare Jesu; Alleluia Res miranda For in this rose is contained Both heaven and earth in little space There is no rose of such virtue As is the rose that bare Jesu Alleluia Transeamus Then leave we all this worldly mirth and follow we this joyful birth There is no rose of such virtue As is the rose that bare Jesu Alleluia Alleluia

about

When the December Ice Storm descended upon southwestern Ontario and caused Ondine Chorus to cancel a Stratford concert, the sudden availability of time combined with Lewis Melville's offer to seize the opportunity to record, instigated the creation of this EP. If you listen closely you may hear the crackle of the fireplace as the seven musicians and singers huddled around microphones on the cold December evening.
